I have Cox cable and a wireless modem with NTELOS. Internet connection is too terrible to play on Xbox Live. If I have a cable modem, it will operate as an Internet connection? I think not, but I would like some feedback from someone who knows more about computers.

No, it wont work. In order to get internet through a cable modem, you have to purchase internet service through Cox. You cant just connect it to your tv or cable box.
