  1. Every office needs a good, reliable flatbed scanner. I’ve long used Canon scanning products, and recently had to replace my old flatbed scanner after I accidentally stepped on it and broke the platen glass.

The LIDE 70 is an excellent, general-purpose flatbed scanner. I use it for all kinds of documents like bank statements, magazine articles, my kid’s drawings, etc. It’s not tremendously fast, but does a really good job with B&W text, color photos, greyscale, and mixed-type documents.

Most often I use the “PDF” button on the front edge of the scanner to directly produce a PDF file from the scanned document. You can make a single-page or multi-page PDF with no problems. The PDF is deposited in a folder of your choice on the hard disk, and you can change its default name in Windows Explorer.

Setup is simple and foolproof. There’s no power supply needed. It gets all its power from the USB cable connection.

Highly recommended. The only thing I could ask for is that the PDF creation goes faster than it does. It takes about 30 seconds for the software to create the PDF after the scan is done.
